Judith Benson – Guest -

Board members: Timothy Cambridge, Alex Bunker, David Torre

Call to order 5:49 PM

The guests, and prospective supervisors introduced themselves to the board.

Kiara has lived in Seminole County since 1999. He used to work at Schwab. He is a freelance writer, a broadcaster (internet show) and he is interested in joining board in order to help the environment.

Judy has been participating with the SSWCD for several months. She is interested in irrigation licensing and water quality issues. “I think I bring some value to the board, I bring a lot of knowledge and a lot of contacts, education and water quality.”

Timothy said the board is now a part of the Seminole Emergency Network. As such, we can work with FEMA if something happens. At the county level, there is not a lot of activity in which SSWCD can participate.

Timothy noted that he has seen the County watering lawns at 10 am. He has talked to Debbie Minot about that, but is not sure if any changes have been/will be made.
He emphasized that the SSWCD needs to keep educating government agencies as well as the public.

He pointed out that the proposed SunRail station would be right between two garbage company facilities.

He asked that there are 3 environmental “hotspots” in Sanford (UF Env. Site, Sanford Dry Cleaners, 9th Street where Amtrak used to park trains). He reported the City isn’t doing anything about any of those locations. Resolution (Vicki)
Timothy wants to buy the old SSWCD computer.

David submitted the treasurer report.
Alex made a motion to accept the report, Timothy seconded it.  The board voted 3-0 to accept it.

David said Timothy needs to go to Banco Popular in Sanford to sign the appropriate paperwork to be an authorized signer on the account.

Judy brought up that there is a Master Gardener Expo Oct 29 10-4 exhibit space for $75 but it would be waived for SSWCD. She said she would be willing to represent the district at the event. It was agreed she could do that and board members would check their schedules and see about participating as well. Perhaps, sell Eden to Sahara at the event.

Timothy made a motion that the new board members be approved. David seconded the motion. The board approved the motion 3-0.

Judy said she is interested in doing the irrigation licensing for the county. She is on state board of Florida Irrigation licensing. The county wasn’t inclined to monitor irrigation regulations. She believes there would be more cohesiveness with rules if there is licensing.

Alex said she will start thinking of and looking at fundraising efforts, we need to start looking for donations as a 501(c)3. Perhaps, she noted, the storage can be donated. Paperwork has to be secured.
Timothy reported he is trying to get in touch with a friend to see if SSWCD could sublease space in her office. All board members, he said, should try to pursue free spaces which can be used as a SSWCD office.

Timothy suggested that the SSWCD doesn’t want to be just another cleanup crew. Alex said we might do cleanups with KSB and Judy said the board should consider doing lakeshore plantings/revitalizations.
A: but maybe do it as a partnership with KSB
