Cover your pool
Simply covering your pool with a pool cover (otherwise known as a solar cover or thermal blanket) helps the environment in the following ways: it keeps both water and heat from evaporating at dramatic rates and it helps keep pool chemicals, if you use them, from polluting the air.

Oct. 20, 1011   6 pm

Casselberry Library

215 North Oxford Road

Casselberry, FL 32707

In attendance: Judy Benson, Timothy Cambridge, Kiara Ashanti

Call to order  6:08 pm

The St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) wants to cut us out of the picture for the contract for management of the Cameron Ranch (Jim LeFils). Board members expressed concern about the break of the contract and expressed a need to have a legal professional look over the contract.

Kiara said the board needs to do some “deep searching” to find out what all  the options for the board are. He expressed an interest in doing that research. He will contact Dave Millard from NRCS to see what input he might have into the matter.

Kiara moved that the board should do all within its power to keep the management contract for the ranch. Judy seconded the motion and the board voted 3-0 in favor of the motion.
A copy of the contract will be forwarded, once again, to Dave Torre with a request that he prepare a legal opinion on the document for the next meeting.

Judy, Timothy and Kiara said they would take part in the Master Gardener Expo at the Seminole County Extension Service center on Oct. 29. Judy would set up the tent and get the items to display on the table from the storage unit. Timothy handed over his key to the storage unit to Judy.

Timothy said he wants to look to businesses in the county to sell advertising for the ConserveSeminole website.

Vicki needs to get in touch with Chuck to get access for the website

The board will meet again at the Casselberry Library on Nov. 15 at 6 pm.

Timothy said he believes the board needs to work toward creating a better reputation for the board as they have enjoyed in the past.  we have in the past. He said he wants to put more of an emphasis on education, on helping the community and finding ways to help the community do things like reusing rainwater.

Kiara suggested that the board members should get more involved in the schools.

Timothy and Kiara said they would begin work on a video that could be used for both educational and fundraising efforts.

Vicki was asked to find contacts for the Environmental Clubs in high school and middle schools

Vicki was asked  to research Irrigation Labs and to see how having an Irrigation Lab could be beneficial

Timothy said he would research how much each utility company charges for water in each area and publish that information on the website as a first step in educating the community.
