Glass
Producing glass from virgin materials requires 30 percent more energy than producing it from crushed, used glass.
The energy saved from recycling one glass bottle will operate a 100-watt light bulb for four hours.
It takes approximately 1 million years for a glass bottle to break down at the landfill.

·                    Chair’s Report

·                    Chair thanked all for participated in 2015 Poster Contest

·                    Prizes awarded to Contest winners

·                    Emphasized need for all supervisors to be active on SSWCD, specifically a 10 hour minimal commitment

·                    Chair attended 02/15 regional multi-entity county meeting and emphasized effort to have SSWCD continue to participate.

·                    Chair discussed her review of 2015 land management review for Little Big Econ

·                    Chair announced intent to participate in AFCD meeting and mentioned participated in May 2015 EarthFest activities

 

·                    Vice Chair’s Report

·                    Discussion of fracking bills in Florida Legislature

·                    Discussion of SSWCD participation in Taste of Oviedo

·                    Discussion of fertilizer standards with Commissioner John Horan

 

·                    Secretary’s Report

·                    Motion by York to approve February 2015 meeting minutes; Motion seconded by Kendrick; Motion approved unanimously.

·                    Unanimous approval to table approval of January 2015 meeting minutes pending further instruction from Duncan regarding incorporation of his remarks at said meeting.

·                    Secretary mentioned multiple ideas for future SSWCD initiatives, including: seeking grant funds for public opinions survey on new fertilizer regulations; a suburban forestry initiative; an effort to recycle buildings; countywide Tree City USA certification; member convention attendance; and a new logo.

 

·                    Treasurer’s Report

·                    Discussion of current SSWCD finances.
